what is the meaning behind the marching hammers in pink floyd's "the wall"?

like you know what do they represent?? to be honest i’d be kind of disappointed if it was supposed to represent roger waters hatred towards the nazis and ww2 in general.

    pretty sure it was supposed to represent soldiers being used as tools by those in power.

    Most likely oppression by the use of military force. Although the Soviet regeim was by far the most oppressive (HAMMER and sickle) it was probably directed toward the US.
